This year is off to a great start - Vital Signs, our company newsletter is about to get started! I've been meaning to do this for quite some time, there just never seems to be much time.  Communication is so important, and it's of paramount importance to pass along information to our customers, associates, team members, etc.  Eagle's Landing has so much information to share - we've got to get it out there!

I'm reminded of a small business seminar I attended with the TSBDC office.  The speaker, a very nice lady, quite successful in her own small business, talked about marketing. She talked about how our we are reluctant to spend time on marketing.  Or money.  Or just the sheer brain power.  She educated her audience on how marketing is really more than just a commercial for your company, though it is that.  A successful marketing campaign conveys useful information about your industry, establishing you as the leader that you are.  She went on to say that customers, and associates alike, want to hear from us.  They want to hear of the new things we're doing.  Of the new technologies, new training seminars, new services - and they want to be reassured that we know what we're doing and can take great care of them.  And then she hit the nail on the head. She cautioned us against the #1 marketing mistake for small businesses:  Assume they know what you do.

Hmmmm....this really resonated with me, and I have never forgotten it.  We try to be good stewards of our time...our money...our tasks...but don't we also need to be good stewards of our information?  Am I doing all I can do if we deploy new technologies, or new ideas, new service options - and don't get the word out???  Though I have tried on past occasions to have a successful communications effort, time gets redirected and funds are spent elsewhere, leaving a communications gap for my associates.  But this year, 2010 - we are more determined than ever to tell folks who we are and what we do.  Not just that, WHY we do, and HOW we do it.  What motivates us.  What we are passionate about.
