While Eagle's Landing processes dictation for a variety of specialties, the majority of our clients are orthopaedic clinics. Because of this, we have developed techniques for training medical transcriptionists (MTs) in orthopaedic terminology. As with all specialties, new procedures, equipment, and medications are always being developed. In an effort to ensure the MTs are up to date, we have developed several methods of keeping them abreast of the changing medical field.

Our transcriptionists are given many resources to assist them in producing quality documentation. We provide them with lists of new terminology, links to reliable websites, as well as tip sheets and modules for specific clients. In addition to this, we require that all of our MTs have current references for the specialties they transcribe. The transcription modules contain information regarding our transcription platform as well as client specific formatting. As a supplement to this, the tip sheets provide specific instructions we have received from our clients about preferred terminology or doctor specific preferences. The resources we provide our MTs were created so that the client receives transcription that meets their standards and is compatible with their technology.

When we hire new MTs, we must also take into account that they may be new to the field or have not transcribed orthopaedic dictation before. For those who do need a refresher or training in general, we have developed a Bridge the Gap program that focuses on transcribing practice dictation for a given specialty as well as making them aware of common terminology relating to that specialty. For orthopaedics, we have compiled a large bank of scrubbed dictation as well as helpful hints regarding research and terminology lists of both common and client specific terms. We have found that doing this speeds the transition to live orthopaedic dictation. By the time the MT is transcribing live dictation, they have had hours of practice and received a great deal of feedback from us.

Using these training methods aids us in producing high-quality dictation. We strive to give all of our clients the best quality documentation possible. We invite our clients to make us aware of new requirements, preferences, studies and terminology, so that we can keep our transcriptionists up to date and maintain the superior quality we are known for. We believe that a well-trained transcriptionist is where quality documentation begins.
