The need for qualified transcriptionists has never been greater. You've heard the claims that offshore outsourcing, electronic medical records, and voice recognition would eliminate transcription costs, eliminate the dictation physicians do every day, or eliminate the transcriptionists who support the patient care team.
And yet, a constant remains:

SOAR
Study the material
Obtain the knowledge
Achieve your goals
Reap the rewards
Quality, ease of process, and risk management demand that the transcriptionist be part of the patient care team. While we may change the way we document, the medical language specialist will help take care of patients for many, many years to come.
Eagle's Landing management has marketed to a wide variety of clients. Small and large clinics, hospitals, and even software companies have asked Eagle's Landing to hop on board as the documentation arm of their institutions. However, due to a shortage of qualified American MTs, we have turned down as much work as we have taken.
The options immediately available to Eagle's Landing were:
Lower our standards
Turn down the work
Send the jobs "offshore"
Eagle's Landing was built on quality, and so quality had to be protected. It is never the best option to turn down so much work, and Eagle's Landing management continued to search for solutions that promote growth of the company. The answer was clear. Eagle's Landing decided to take on education as the stronghold of the American transcription industry. Education is the defining tool of our profession and the progression of it. Our Transcription Director said it so clearly: "If we are to have enough transcriptionists, we will have to grow our own." It is out of this need that the Eagle's Landing SOAR Program of Medical Transcription began.
In response to the need Eagle's Landing created two programs to support the medical transcription industry:
SOAR
Bridge the Gap
The Eagle's Landing SOAR Program is a distance learning curriculum for the novice that includes each and every aspect of the medical transcription profession. Taking about 9 months to complete, Eagle's Landing offers assistance in becoming certified through the American Association of Medical Transcription (AAMT) once exiting exams are passed. Those who successfully complete the training are often offered Eagle's Landing positions when available.
Eagle's Landing recognized the need for a program to support the continuing education of MTs, thus the Bridge the Gap Program was added to the Training Division over 3 years ago.
The Eagle's Landing Bridge the Gap Program was designed to provide:
A reinforcement program for new MTs who have completed an accredited MT course
Continuing education for experienced MTs
The Bridge the Gap Units are intended to expand an MT's knowledge of individual body systems and to build expertise in specialties where experience is limited. To be admitted to the Bridge the Gap there is an Entrance Exam.
Both programs are written by transcriptionists and taught by transcriptionist with over 30 years' experience in transcription instruction. Eagle's Landing uses real dictation by real physicians to emulate a true work environment, and feedback is given to each student in order to facilitate a growing knowledge base. Use of technology is a part of our programs, so that our students learn how to properly utilize the tools of their trade.
It is our hope that through this training program we are able to answer the need for more transcriptionists while we positively affect patient care, as well as those students who have chosen our course over another.
